1 · Measure
Measure across the flat face
Most spindles here are 32–55mm square and newel posts 82–140mm. Measure the flat, un-turned section of the old part — never the widest point of the turning.

2 · Match
Keep one style name across the set
Order spindles, newels and half newels under the same style — Stop Chamfered, Turned, Twisted or Fluted — so the profiles line up on the finished balustrade.

3 · Count
Work out how many spindles
Allow two per tread, plus a landing run. Every spindle page has an estimator that takes your tread count, landing length and spindle width.
